This is truly a unique piece that dates from approximately 1760, a real collectors item. It is known as a depositario, and it is fashioned from single wooden slabs from what was obviously a very large tree called as sabino in Mexico. The iron work is clearly the work of a very talented Spanish artisan working in the small village of Atotonilco. For over 200 years this magnificent chest housed the vestments which adorned the saints that to this day are highly revered in Mexico’s “Sistine Chapel”, the sanctuary of Atotonilco. This is an absolutely exquisite piece that would make for a truly historical presence in one’s home.
